Harriet Goodhue Hosmer (1830-1908) was an American sculptor who is most known for her piece "Beatrice Cenci". Trained in Rome by Welsh sculptor John Gibson, Hosmer was part of a group of women artists which included Anne Whitney, Emma Stebbins, Edmonia Lewis, Louisa Lander, Margaret Foley, Florence Freeman, and Vinnie Ream. She was also associated with Nathaniel Hawthorne, George Eliot and George Sand. A multi-talented artist, Hosmer also designed and constructed machinery related to sculpting. Toned and creased. Ink notes (unknown hand) and adhesive residue on verso. Otherwise, fine condition.
