HARRIET NELSON
Mrs. Ozzie Nelson signs a First Day Cover honoring The American
Indian.
First Day Cover signed: "Harriet Nelson", 6½x3¾. FDC honoring The
American Indian, 13-cent stamp affixed, postmarked Kansas City, Missouri,
January 11, 1978, FIRST DAY OF ISSUE. Peggy Lou Snyder (1909-1994), known
professionally as Harriet Hilliard, was a talented singer and aspiring actress
when she married her bandleader, Ozzie Nelson, in 1935. She continued to
appear as Hilliard in movie roles, such as Confessions of Boston
Blackie (1941) and The Falcon Strikes Back (1943). In 1944, however,
she and Ozzie launched a radio series, The Adventures of Ozzie and
Harriet, and it was as Mrs. Nelson that Harriet would be known to the public
thereafter. The show moved to TV (1952-1966), where, with sons David
and Ricky, the Nelsons portrayed the 1950s ideal of an American family. Slightly
rippled at cachet. Fine condition.
