HARRY BLACKSTONE, JR.
Black and white publicity photograph of Blackstone performing an illusion
Photograph Signed: "Magically/Harry Blackstone/5-16-1990". B/w, 8x10 overall, image 7x8 (one surface). Captioned at lower margin. Innovative magician Harry Blackstone, Jr. (1934-1997) first began appearing (and disappearing) in his famous father's magic shows at the age of six months. Schooled by Harry, Sr. (who died in 1965) in magic, illusions and showmanship, Harry, Jr. went on to become a gifted performer in his own right. Continuing the floating light bulb and vanishing birdcage made famous by his father, Harry, Jr.'s innovations included the floating buzz saw and "cutting" a female assistant into three parts. Named "Magician of the Year" in 1979 and 1985, Harry, Jr. is credited with the longest running magic and illusion show on Broadway (1980, after his U.S. tour that year had set box office records in 16 U.S. cities; the show would continue to play to worldwide acclaim after its Broadway run). The younger Blackstone also had three TV specials, appeared as a guest on numerous TV shows, wrote several books on magic (and re-edited his father's book on the subject) and designed four magic kits (after his death, Blackstone's wife, Gay, continued to run the magic production company he had founded in 1971). Fine condition.
