HARRY BLACKSTONE, SR.
Slip of paper signed in 1942 by magician Harry Blackstone, Sr. with this sobering statement: "$uccess is work Hard Work". With a small b/w printed bust photo of Blackstone affixed.
Autograph quotation signed "$uccess/is work/Hard Work/says/Blackstone/1942". 4½x4, affixed to a 4½x4¼ sheet of paper. With a 2x2¾ b/w printed bust photo of Blackstone and a printed caption affixed. Born Henry Boughton, Blackstone (1885-1965) and his younger brother, Pete, started in Vaudeville in 1910 as "Harry Bouton & Co." Blackstone later toured as "Frederick the Great" until World War I, and made his first appearance as "Blackstone, World's Master Magician" on Jan. 7, 1918. During the 1920s, he was noted for his spectacular illusions, including the "Vanishing Horse", "Vanishing Automobile" and "Vanishing Camel". Blackstone wrote a number of how-to books on magic, explaining card and sleight of hand tricks, one of his fortes. Lightly toned, stained and creased. Signature is lightly spotted and has bled lightly in places but is legible. Paper residue on verso (no show-through). Otherwise in fine condition.
