HARRY CHAPIN
His signature in black ink on an 11x14 drawing in blue ink by an unknown artist (1974), who had evidently sketched Chapin in rehearsal
Original Art signed: "Harry Chapin", 11x14. Ink drawing shows a bust view of Chapin in profile, and also 2 images of his eyes. Ink note in unknown artist's hand: "Chapin/11-30-74/Sound Stage." Folk-rock singer/songwriter Harry Chapin (1942-1981) earned a Grammy nomination as Best New Artist in 1972, the year of his hit song "Taxi" and album Heads and Tales. His "Cat's in the Cradle" from the 1974 album Verities and Balderdash earned another nomination as Best Male Vocal Performance. By 1976, at the height of his career, Chapin performed in 230 concerts, 130 of which were benefits for charities and organizations he supported. In December 1980, his last hit, "Sequel", from the album of the same name, rose higher on the charts than the original "Taxi". Chapin was working on his 12th album in July 1981, when he was tragically killed in an automobile accident on his way to a concert. Corners lightly worn. Adhesive residue at top edge (previous binding). Very lightly creased. Overall, fine condition.
