HARRY EINSTEIN - AUTOGRAPHED INSCRIBED PHOTOGRAPH 1937 - HFSID 22669

HARRY EINSTEIN ("PARKYAKARKUS")
Radio and movie comic also famous for his death at a celebrity roast.
Photograph inscribed and signed in character: "To Charles S. White/with
the best wishes of/Parkyakarkus". Vintage b/w, 9½x7½. Harry Einstein
(1904-1958), also sometimes billed as Harry Parke, was best known under
the stage name of Parkyakarkus, a comic Greek dialect character he created for
local audiences in Boston and then took to Eddie Cantor's radio show in the
1930s. Eventually he got his own show, Parky's, featuring the same
character. He is the father of comedian Albert Brooks, born Albert
Einstein in a jest Brooks attributes to his dad. Einstein's tragicomic death
is also legendary. He had just finished a very funny presentation at a Friar's
Club Roast for Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz. Returning to his seat, he collapsed,
and Milton Berle called for a doctor. The audience laughed considering it a
stunt. Staple holes at right corners. Minor chips to picture surface, not at
signature. Otherwise, fine condition.
