HARRY ELLERBE
Vintage photo in herringbone jacket and tie, inscribed in person to collector Saul Goodman
Photograph inscribed and signed: "To Saul/Sincerely/Harry Ellerbe". Sepia, 8x10. Collector's ink stamp on verso dates signature: 5/20/1936. Harry Ellerbe (1901-1992) appeared in a dozen Broadway productions over a quarter century, from Philip Goes Forth (1931) to Desk Set (1955-1956). He made a few feature films, including So Red the Rose (1935) and The Man Who Understood (1959), but he was a much more frequent presence on TV from the 1950s to the early seventies, seen in sitcoms (Ozzie and Harriet, Dennis the Menace), Westerns (Rawhide) and dramas (The Fugitive). He directed regional theatres, including the Gregory Peck Actors Playhouse (La Jolla, California). Saul Goodman (1919-2003), a New York business man by day, pursued his love of film and theatre in the evening, making friends with many celebrities. While other autograph seekers offered album leaves, Goodman presented stars with snazzy photographs, a rarity then, to sign in fountain pen. Corners slightly creased. Otherwise, fine condition.
