Career stats on verso. Harry Gallatin (1927-2015) was a professional basketball player and coach who played 10 seasons in the NBA. He spent nine seasons with the New York Knicks and one with the Detroit Pistons. He was elected to the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1991. Throughout his childhood Gallatin played a wide variety of sports. After graduating from high school, he deferred attending Northeast Missouri State Teachers' College in order to enlist in the U.S. Navy. Gallatin served in the military until the end of the Second World War. During his time at Northeast Missouri the team had a record of 59-4 and Gallatin averaged 12.9 points a game. The New York Knicks drafted him in 1948 and in his best year with the team (statistically speaking) he averaged 15.3 rebounds a game. Impressively, Gallatin also played minor league professional baseball during the NBA off-season in both 1949 and 1950. Following his retirement from the NBA, Gallatin coached the Southern Illinois University Salukis and Southern Illinois University Edwardsville Cougars at the college level, and the St. Louis Hawks and New York Knicks at the professional level.
