Irish actor sends John Willis, editor of Theatre World, his resume and best wishes
Autograph note double signed: "Harry Towb" "Harry Towb" in black ink. 1 page, 8½x11. Written on the back of his Theatre World resume. Post script: "Dear Mr. Willis, Above the information you requested. Best Wishes". Irish actor Harry Towb (1925-2009) appeared both on stage and screen in a career lasting over fifty years. Towb debuted on Broadway in Under the Weather (1966) and later in Sherlock Holmes (1974) and Travesties (1975). His first major performance on London's West End was in Bar Mitzvah Boy (1978). The majority of the actor's work was on British television in shows such as The Avengers (1968), Doctor Who (1969), and The Bill (2001). Towb was in numerous movies, most notably Lamb (1985) with Liam Neeson, as well as Barry Lyndon (1975) and Moll Flanders (1996). Once asked why he became an actor, Towb stated that he always wanted to be someone else. John A. Willis (1916-2010), active in Theatre World from the beginning, became its chief editor in 1965, holding that position until 2008. Willis is regarded as one of the foremost theatre and film historians of the 20th century. While producing (and presenting) the annual Theatre World Awards, Willis also served on the nominating committee for the Tony Awards. Theatre World, which received its own Tony for Excellence in Theatre in 2001, continues under chief editor Ben Hodges. Normal mailing folds. Corners rounded. Toned in margins. Light surface creases. Otherwise, fine condition.
