HARRY WIERE
B/w group photo by Kimis of London of comedy trio The Wiere Brothers with "our accompaniment" Mildred Symour, signed "Wiere Brothers" by brother Harry
Inscribed photograph signed "To Todd. Best Wishes/Wiere Brothers on verso in blue ink. Also signed "With our accompaniment/Miss Mildred Symour" in pencil and, on image "Wiere/Bros/Wiere Bros" in black ink. B/w, 8x10 overall, 7¼x9¼ image, one surface. Photo by Kimis of London. HARRY WIERE (1906-1992, born in Berlin, Germany) was one-third of the comedy trio The Wiere Brothers, which included his brothers HERBERT WIERE (1908-1999, born in Vienna, Austira) and SYLVESTER WIERE (1909-1970, born in Prauge, Bohemia, Austria-Hungary, now the Czech Rebublic). The three started performing on stage in 1922 and made their American debut in 1935. Highly talented, the Wiere Brothers worked comedy into an act that included singing, dancing, acrobatics and playing a myriad of instruments. They were headliners in theatres and night clubs, but Hollywood didn't utilize their talents very often. Highlights of their film careers include cameos in the Bob Hope and Bing Crosby "Road" comedy Road to Rio (1947) and Elvis Presley's Double Trouble (1967), their last film appearance. They also had their own TV series, Oh, Those Bells (1962). The Wiere Brothers went into semi-retirement after Sylvester's death. Lightly toned, creased, bowed. Pen skipped slightly while signing signature, but signature is still legible. Light dents at top edge. Otherwise in fine condition.
