HARVE PRESNELL
Signed b/w publicity photo from the 1964 film adaptation of The Unsinkable Molly Brown, with actor Harve Presnell (who played Johnny "Leadville" Brown) sitting on a rock in a sweater
Photograph signed: "Harve/Presnell". B/w, 8x10. Publicity still for the 1964 film adaptation of the Broadway musical The Unsinkable Molly Brown, in which Presnell reprised his role as Johnny "Leadville" Brown. ©1964, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Inc. Captioned at lower margin. Presnell's role of Johnny "Leadville" Brown was created specifically to showcase his fine baritone voice by Meredith Wilson, who had seen Presnell in concert at the Hollywood Bowl. Highly successful on Broadway (1960-1962), the play was also well received by film audiences, although Presnell's Broadway co-star, Tammy Grimes, was replaced by Debbie Reynolds. Singer and actor Presnell (1933-2009), born George Harvey Presnell, also starred in the film version of the Broadway musical, Paint Your Wagon (1969), in which he gave a stirring rendition of They Call the Wind Mariah), but he later appeared in more sinister or serious roles in such films as Fargo (1996), The Chamber (1996), Face/Off (1997), Saving Private Ryan (1998), Patch Adams (1998), The Legend of Bagger Vance (2000), The Family Man (2000), Mr. Deeds (2002), Old School (2003) and Flags of Our Fathers (2006). Presnell, who made his TV debut in 1956, would become a regular on several TV series: Ryan's Hope (as Matthew Crane, 1984), Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman (as Dr. Sam Lane, 1995-1997), The Pretender (as Mr. Parker, 1997-2000) and Dawson's Creek (as Arthur Brooks, 2000-2001). He also appeared in a number of made-for-TV movies in addition to making guest appearances on a number of TV series, including a recent visit to ER (2006). Presnell is also known for being a replacement performer as Oliver "Daddy" Warbucks in the musical Annie, playing for over 1,000 performances in the role on Broadway (1977-1983) and on tour. Lightly creased at blank margins and corners, three file nicks at blank left edge, light black mark at upper left corner. Minor surface creases (most not evident head on), some at facial image. Name written (unknown hand) on verso (no show through). Overall, fine condition.
