HEAT WAVE MOVIE CAST
A promotional photograph showing stills from the film Heat Wave, signed by James Earl Jones, Cicely Tyson, and Blair Underwood
Printed photograph signed: "Blair/Underwood", "Cicely Tyson", "James Earl Jones", in blue felt tip, B/w 8x10. A promotional collage of images for the 1990 film Heat Wave. JAMES EARL JONES (b. 1931) was originally a stage actor, winning Tonys for The Great White Hope (1969) and Fences (1987). He was nominated for a Best Actor Academy Award (1971) for reprising The Great White Hope on film. In 1991, he won both a Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor Emmy for Gabriel's Fire and Heat Wave, and in 1999 for Outstanding Performer Children's Special. Jones' sonorous and highly recognizable voice served both Darth Vader in the original Star Wars trilogy and was Mufasa in Disney's The Lion King (1994) and has been featured in more than twenty films and as many commercial announcements such as "This is CNN". In 2001, Jones narrated the documentary Black Indians: An American Story which explores issues of mixed racial identity - Jones is of African American, American Indian (Choctaw) and Irish decent. He was awarded the John F. Kennedy Centre Honor in 2002. CICELY THOMAS (b. 1933) is an award winning actress, amassing an amazing 30 plus wins for her work on both stage and film. She began her career as a model, being a successful face for Ebony magazine, but eventually transitioning into the acting world. He first credited role was in a special broadcast on NBC called Frontiers of Faith (1951), though the role was small, and by far no indication of her future success. She would work through minor roles on Broadway and television, appearing in the original cast of the off Broadway play The Blacks (1961), alongside other prolific black figures and actors, including Maya Angelou, James Earl Jones, Roscoe Lee Brown, and Charles Gordone. However, she wouldn't truly be noticed by the public eye until her role in the critically acclaimed film Sounder (1974), receiving an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress. Since then, she has won awards for countless performances, including two Emmys, several Image Awards, one SAG award, two Drama Desk Awards, and most recently, a Tony award for her role in the 2013 play The Trip is Bountiful. A truly historic actress, she continues to appear in many films and stage works, and shows no signs of slowing down. Actor BLAIR UNDERWOOD (born in 1964) began his acting career with a guest sport on The Cosby Show, which led to recurring roles on the ABC soap, One Life to Live, and the series Downtown. Underwood got his big TV break on L.A. Law, on which he played attorney Jonathan Rollins from 1987-1994. Underwood has also appeared in a number of feature films, including Krush Groove (1985, his debut), Second Coming (1992, on which he was also screenwriter and producer), Just Cause (1995), Mistrial (1996) and Rules of Engagement (2000) and made-for-TV movies (Murder in Mississippi, 1990; Mama Flora's Family, 1998; The Wishing Tree, 2000) and has starred in City of Angels (2000) and guest starred on a number of TV series, including Knight Rider, 21 Jump Street, A Different World and Sex and the City (a recurring role as Dr. Robert Leeds).
