Autograph Musical Quotation inscribed and signed in German, translated: "Miss Gertrude Weiner/in heartfelt remembrance/Heinrich Strecker/Vienna, 10-22-54" His music notation bears the song title "Drunt' in der Lobau" (Down in Lobau [an Austrian county], 3½x4¾, Also signed on verso: "Thea Böhm-Linhard/13-VI-55". B/w magazine photo affixed to left of signature. Austrian composer HEINRICH STRECKER (1893-1981), his legal studies interrupted by service in World War I, devoted himself entirely to music thereafter. He gained fame as the composer of popular music, including waltzes, film scores, and a series of operettas, beginning with Girl from Vienna (1931) "Down in Lobau," a romantic ballad, was - an remains today - one of his most popular songs. Strecker joined the Nazi Party in 1933. After Germany's absorption of Austria, Strecker expanded his music publishing business through the "Aryanization" of rival companies. German soprano THEA BÖHM-LINHARD (1903-1981) made her opera debut in 1920, and from 1921 to 1926 sang with the Bavarian State Opera. She was also a concert singer. She retired from the stage, except for occasional guest appearances, after her marriage to the Opera's director, Karl Böhm, in 1927. She is the mother of actor and humanitarian activist Karl-Heinz Böhm. Toned and creased. Right edge frayed from binding. Corners worn. Otherwise, fine condition.
