Signature: "Helen Mathers". B/w, 2x3 image, overall 4x5¾ (two
surfaces). Ellen Buckingham Mathews (1853-1920) was an English
author of novels and short stories using the pen name Helen
Mathers and David Lyall. Over her 35-year career, she wrote a number of
novels, including her most famous, Comin' Thro' the Rye (1875),
and The Lovely Malincourt (1929), as well as short stories for Victorian
periodicals. Signature and mounting sheets lightly soiled. Mounting paper
remnants on verso (no show through). Otherwise, fine
condition.
