[HELEN FERGUSON]; [WILLIAM RUSSELL]
Unsigned 7x6, captioned photo of Ferguson on a movie set with Russell, five days after their marriage
Photograph, unsigned. B/w, 7x6. Typed caption affixed in lower margin: "1925 - Helen Ferguson and William Russell pose for a publicity informal five days after their marriage - Mrs. R visiting husband Bill on the set. Schedules made no allowance for honeymoons in those days either." HELEN FERGUSON (1901-1977), a WAMPAS Baby Star of 1922, starred in eleven films of the silent era, including Hungry Hearts (1922). In 1933, she quit acting entirely to become a publicity agent, a very successful one. Her clients included Henry Fonda, Barbara Stanwyck, Robert Taylor, Howard Keel and Loretta Young. She earned a reputation as one of Hollywood's best "suppress agents," skilled at squelching unflattering stories. WILLIAM RUSSELL (1884-1929) appeared in over 100 silent films from 1919 to 1929, beginning with The Railroad Builder and concluding with Girls Gone Wild. He directed 5 films, and produced two through his own company. Russell and Ferguson remained married until his early death from pneumonia. Corners lightly worn. Ink stamp and pencil note (unknown hand) on verso. Otherwise, fine condition.
