HELEN HAYES and BARRY NELSON
Helen Hayes and Barry Nelson sign a pink album leaf in blue ink.
Signatures: "Helen Hayes" and, on verso, "To Louise/Barry Nelson", 5¼x4 pink album leaf. A 1¼x1½-inch newspaper photograph of Helen Hayes has been affixed at upper left margin of Hayes' side and a 1¼x1½-inch newspaper photograph of Barry Nelson has been affixed at lower right margin of Nelson's side. HELEN HAYES (1900-1993) won the 1931-1932 Academy Award for Best Actress for the title role in The Sin of Madelon Claudet, her first film. After starring in Vanessa, Her Love Story in 1935 for M-G-M, Hayes returned to Broadway and enjoyed the greatest triumph of her stage career in the title role of Victoria Regina (1935-1938). She earned the sobriquet, First Lady of the American Stage, winning Tony Awards for Happy Birthday (1947), the first year the award was given, and for Time Remembered (1958). A frequent TV guest star from the 1950s to the 1980s, Hayes made occasional films, such as Anastasia (1956) and Airport (1970), winning a Best Supporting Actress Oscar for the latter. Stage, screen and television actor BARRY NELSON (1920-2007) earned a Tony nomination for Best Actor in a Musical for The Act (1978). He was also seen on the stage in The Moon is Blue (1951), Mary, Mary (1964), Cactus Flower (1965), Seascape (1975) and The Norman Conquests (1976). Nelson also starred in three short-lived TV series in the 1950s, including Hudson's Bay. He is best known, however, for being the first actor to portray James Bond (in the 1954 TV presentation of Casino Royale). Ironically, Nelson played him as Jimmy Bond, an American! He was also seen on the big screen as the hotel manager in The Shining (1980). Lightly soiled at edges. Punch holes at left margin. Overall, fine condition.
