Wiener, Cheltenham, in full: "My father, who was a lifelong friend of
Brahms, was also a good friend of Ignaz Brull, with whom, as a very young man,
he once made a concert tour. Sincerely". Accompanied by original

(1882-1973) was the daughter of German-born Anglo-American singer, composer
and conductor Sir George Henschel, Helen Henschel was born in Boston, shortly
after her father became the first conductor of the Boston Symphony Orchestra
(1881). Helen, herself a talented concert pianist, wrote a biography of her
father: When Soft Voices Die (1949). Her father, as she notes in this
letter, was a close friend of Johannes Brahms, until the latter's death in 1890.
