HELEN HULL JACOBS
The U.S. tennis star who won the U.S. Women's Open championship in four
consecutive years signs her autograph on a letter written by a
collector.
Signature: "Sincerely yours -/Helen Hull Jacobs" at lower margin of
ALS: "Russell Stephens", 1p, 5½x7. Clinton, Missouri, 1935 May 31. To
Helen Hull Jacobs, Beverly Hills, California. Begins: "Dear
Madam". In full: "I am an autograph collector and would be most
highly honored by having yours. Thanking you I am, Yours truly". Helen Hull
Jacobs (1908-1997) won the U.S. Women's Open tennis tournament four
consecutive years (1932-1935) and the Wimbledon tourney in 1936. Her
intense rivalry with Helen Wills Moody entertained tennis fans in the
1930s. Jacobs was enshrined in the International Tennis Hall of Fame in
1962. Lightly creased with folds, light vertical fold at the "Hu" of Hull.
Slightly soiled. Tape remnants at upper blank corners of verso of integral leaf
(no show through). Fine condition.
