Inscribed Signature: "To/Sydney/from/Helen M. Westley", 4¼x2½ album leaf. Helen Westley (1875-1942) made her stage debut before the turn of the century, and was a frequent Broadway presence from the 1910s to the late 1930s. An original board member of the Theatre Guild, she appeared in many of its productions. She played Henry Higgins' mother in Pygmalion (1926 revivival) and Aunt Eller in Green Grow the Lilacs (1943, the stage play later transformed into Oklahoma! In films she specialized in stern, imposing older women, although one whose heart could be melted eventually by an Anne Shirley in Anne of Green Gables (1934) or Shirley Temple in Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm (1938). Holes at left edge from previous binding. Ink notes (unknown hand) on verso. Soiled and toned at edges. Creased.
