HELEN MARTINI
The actress writes to John Willis, Editor of Theatre World, saying
she has never heard before of his publication and is very flattered by his
asking for her biography
Autograph letter signed: "Helen Martini", in blue ink, 1 page,
8x10. November 19, 1973. In part: "Dear Mr. Willis, This is the first
I've heard about being mentioned in your files etc. When + how did
all this come about? Is it possible for me to obtain the book that has my biog
in it? Gee! I'm extremely flattered". No relevant information can be found
on Helen Martini, but she is not to be confused with the zookeeper of the
same name. John A. Willis (1916-2010), active in Theatre World from
the beginning, became its chief editor in 1965, holding that position until
2008. Willis is regarded as one of the foremost theatre and film historians
of the 20th century. While producing (and presenting) the annual Theatre World
Awards, Willis also served on the nominating committee for the Tony Awards.
Theatre World, which received its own Tony for Excellence in
Theatre in 2001, continues under chief editor Ben Hodges. Light surface
creases. Slightly toned. Fine condition.
