Hand Print signed: "Helen Thayer/April 2005", 7½x10. Black ink tracing of her left hand. New Zealand native Helen Thayer (b. 1938), became at age 50 the first person to journey solo to the Magnetic North Pole. At age 63, while still recovering from an auto accident which had put her ability to walk at all in question, she hiked 1,200 miles across the Gobi Desert in 126 degree heat. She also kayaked 1,200 miles of the remote Amazon, and lived alone with wolves for a year. Honored by the National Geographic Society and at the White House, she now gives motivational speeches and has published several books recounting her epic adventures.
