GERMAN FIGHTER PILOTS: WORLD WAR II The Luftwaffe pilots pens their names on this commemorative envelope Commemorative Envelope Signed: "Helmut Lipfert", "Wolfram Walter", "Heinz Marquardt" and "Hugo Broch" 6½x4¼. Royal Air Force Cover honoring the 21st anniversary of the First Direct Jet Crossing of Atlantic, February 21, 1972, Royal Air Force Finningley. Postmarked British Forces Postal Service. One British stamp affixed color illustration of a Handley Page Heyford cacheted on left-hand side. Postmarked on verso Goose Airport, Newfoundland. HELMUT LIPFERT (1916-1990) was a flying ace. He received the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross with Oak Leaves for his valiant service. Ranking as the 13th overall most proficient fighter ace in the history of aerial warfare, Lipfert recorded 203 victories in the 687 combat missions he flew. WALTER WOLFRAM served with JG 52 and was an ace who tallied 137 air victories, HEINZ "NEGUS" MARQUARDT (1922-2003) was a fighter ace who flew for the German Luftwaffe. Credited with 121 aerial victories (as well as 16 unconfirmed victories), he was a recipient of the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross. Marquardt flew in 320 combat missions, mostly over the Eastern Front. HUGO BROCH (b. 1922) is a flying ace who flew for the German Luftwaffe. For his valiant service during World War II, he received the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross. Broch claimed 81 victories in the 324 missions he flew, all of them on the Eastern Front. Identities and accomplishments of signers neatly stamped in German on verso. Lightly toned. Corners and edges gently worn. Stain toward lower right-hand corner resulting from previously adhered sticker. Otherwise, fine condition.
