Autograph Letter signed: "Henri Martelli", 1 page, 8x10¾ page, affixed at an 8½x11 page. Paris, 1938 March 29. In French, loosely translated: "Sir, I am pleased to respond to your amicably expressed desire. You will find a photograph of me in the American magazine titled Musical America (Vol XVI, No. 3, February 10, 1936). This review is edited by A. Walter Kramer (Musical American Corporation, 113 W. 57th Street, New York, N. Y.) I will try sometime to send you a photograph with my signature. Please believe, in the meantime, in my best wishes. P. S. Please excuse me for not replying in English, which I understand but which I don't know well enough to serve me." Original mailing envelope, addressed in Martelli's hand to R. Errington Ward, Melrose Highlands, Massachusetts, attached to upper edge. Corsican-born French composer Henri Martelli (1895-1980) wrote chamber music in a neo-classical style. He was Secretary of the National Music Society, and French president of the Vivaldi Society.Ralph Errington Ward (1926-2009) a fighter pilot and squadron commander in the China-Burma-India Theater of World War II, went on to become President and CEO of Cheseborough-Ponds, Inc., transforming the cosmetics firm into a major home product conglomerate. Mailing folds. Lightly creased and toned at edges. Filing holes at right edge. Otherwise, fine condition.
