HENRI RICHARD
Captioned photo, shown on the ice
Photograph signed: "Henri Richard 16". Brown-hued b/w, 8x10.
Printed caption: "The Pocket Rocket's ..." Many people, including some of his
coaches, told Henri Richard (b. 1936) that he was too small to play in
the National Hockey League. He certainly proved them wrong, joining the Montreal
Canadiens in 1955 and helping them to 11 Stanley Cup championships, the most
notched by any player in NHL history. Fifteen years younger than his
brother, hockey legend Maurice Richard, he played a completely different style
of hockey: Maurice was a powerful scorer, Henri the nimble stick handler who
twice led the league in assists. The brothers played together on the
Canadiens for five years, winning the Stanley Cup each year. Neither player ever
wore the uniform of any NHL team except Montreal. A four-time All-Star, Henri
Richard was enshrined in the sport's Hall of Fame in 1979. Unknown stain
on verso (no show through). Fine condition.
