Typed letter in Hebrew informing the Anglo-Palestine Bank that
The United Committee for resettling Jews of Germany in Eretz Yisrael has
permitted Dr. Finer and Mr. A. Berlin of Tel Aviv to sign on behalf of the
board, framed to 14x27.
Typed Letter signed: "Henrietta Szold", 1 page, 8½x11, framed
to 14x17. Jerusalem, [Israel], 1933 July 16. On letterhead of The United
Committee for Resettling Jews of Germany in Eretz Yisrael, written to the
Anglo-Palestine Bank, in full: "In addition to the people we have
notified already as signatories for the United Committee (Mz Szold, Mr. M.
Ussishkin, Dr. Hantke, Mr. A. Elizur) I am hereby to notify you that, as of
today till further notice, also Dr. Finer and Mr. A. Berlin of Tel Aviv are
approved to sign With much respect" In 1912, Baltimore-born Henrietta
Szold (1860-1945) founded the Woman's Zionist Organization of America,
Hadassah. She was its first president from 1912-1926, becoming the first woman
elected to the World Zionist Organization in 1927. In 1920, Szold had moved
to Palestine, where she directed medical and rehabilitation work, especially for
children. Because of the rapid spread of anti-Semitism in Germany, the
Jewish Agency for Palestine had to create a separate agency to handle the
emigration of Jews from Germany. One vertical and one horizontal fold. Two
filing holes at left. Lightly toned at edges. Otherwise, fine condition. Not
framed in Galley of History Style.
