Typed letter signed: "Henry A Barnes", 8½x11. November 18, 1966. In full: "Dear Marc: Thank you for your letter of November 12. I certainly appreciate your kind remarks about the work I have done in New York. In accordance with your request, I'm enclosing two autographed photographs [items not included]. Sincerely". Henry A. Barnes (1906-1968) a traffic engineer and commissioner who served in several cities in the United States, including Flint, Michigan; Denver, Colorado; Baltimore Maryland; and New York City, New York. He helped pioneer several innovations in traffic control and safety, including the "Green Wave", actuated traffic signals, and bus lanes. He is also well known not for invention, but promotion of what became known as the "Barnes Dance", which is a system used in larger cities to halt all traffic and allow pedestrians to cross in any direction. Light surface creases. Corners lightly worn and creased. Small cut on bottom right corner. Stain above signature. Soiled on verso. Otherwise, fine condition.
