April 1927.", 6¼x3½. English Shakespearean actor Henry Hinchliffe
Ainley (1879-1945), who made his stage debut as a messenger in
Macbeth, first found fame in 1902 for his role as Paolo in Paolo
and Francesca. His other roles included Oliver Cromwell, Mark Antony,
Malvolio, Leontes and Hamlet (the 1930 production of the play was tapped for a
Royal Command Performance). Ainley, one of the first stage actors to
appear in a film (1911), also played James Fraser in The First Mrs.
Fraser (1929), reprising the role in the 1932 film version, and
he made several recordings. Ainley was the father of actors Richard and
Anthony Ainley. Frayed left edge. Otherwise, fine
condition.
