HENRY ARMETTA
The comedian's signature on an album leaf with printed photo and
caption affixed
Signature: "Henry Armetta", 6x4 album leaf. Ink note in same
pen (unknown hand): 1935. B/w newspaper photo and caption attached. Henry
Armetta (1888-1945) was an illegal-immigrant, 1902-style, stowing away on a
boat from Italy. He found success in Hollywood as a character actor, often
playing stereotypical, excitable Italians in comedies and not a few dramas,
beginning in the silent era. Laurel and Hardy fans may remember his as the
flustered innkeeper in The Devil's Brother (1933). His last film, A
Bell for Adano, appeared after his death. Edges and corners creased and
worn. Vertical crease through center (lightly effecting signature). Ahesive
residue on face (not effecting signature). Binding holes at left edge.
Otherwise, fine condition.
