A signature from the Italian character actor
Signatures: "Henry Armetta", in pencil, 6x4¼, with a small
clipping of the actor's image on the bottom right. Accompanied by an unsigned
8x10¼ photograph. Henry Armetta (1888-1945) was an illegal-immigrant,
1902-style, stowing away on a boat from Italy. He found success in Hollywood
as a character actor, often playing stereotypical, excitable Italians in
comedies and not a few dramas, beginning in the silent era. Laurel and Hardy
fans may remember his as the flustered innkeeper in The Devil's Brother
(1933). His last film, A Bell for Adano, appeared after his death.
Binding holes on left margin. Light surface creases. Corners slightly worn and
creased. Toned. Otherwise, fine condition.
