HENRY ARMETTA
Photograph of the character actor shown smiling wearing a suit and
bowtie
Inscribed Photograph Signed: "to my dear friend/Doris Randle/My
very best wishes to you/Sincerely/Henry Armetta/1937", Sepia 8x10. Henry
Armetta (1888-1945) was an illegal-immigrant, 1902-style, stowing away on a
boat from Italy. He found success in Hollywood as a character actor, often
playing stereotypical, excitable Italians in comedies and not a few dramas,
beginning in the silent era. Laurel and Hardy fans may remember his as the
flustered innkeeper in The Devil's Brother (1933). His last film, A
Bell for Adano, appeared after his death. Lightly bowed. Corners
creased. Light surface creases. Signature light, but legible.
