HENRY ARMETTA
The Italian character actor is shown laughing in this sepia
photograph.
Inscribed Photograph signed: "To Corinne Reaugh/with my
sincere/best wishes-/Henry Armetta/1939" in white ink, Sepia 8x10. Henry
Armetta (1888-1945) was an illegal-immigrant, 1902-style, stowing away on a
boat from Italy. He found success in Hollywood as a character actor, often
playing stereotypical, excitable Italians in comedies and not a few dramas,
beginning in the silent era. Laurel and Hardy fans may remember his as the
flustered innkeeper in The Devil's Brother (1933). His last film, A
Bell for Adano, appeared after his death. Paperclip indentation at top
left (barely visible). Slightly worn. Otherwise, fine
condition.
