HENRY C. DWORSHAK
Signed typed note, accompanied by his franked Senate envelope and a newspaper photo
Typed Note signed: "Henry C. Dworshak", 5x3 card, affixed to an 8½x11 page. In full: "In compliance with your request, I am pleased to send my autograph for your collection." Also affixed to the page are a US Senate envelope with Dworshak's stamped frank, and a b/w newspaper photo of him. HENRY LOWE DWORSHAK (1894-1962), previously a printer and publisher, served Idaho as a US Representative (1939-1945), US Senate. Twice appointed to the Senate after an incumbent's death (1945-1949, 1950-1961), he himself died in office too. Dworshak remained a staunch isolationist, even after World War II caused many Senators to abandon that position. A supporter of Senator Joseph McCarthy, he voted against the censure of McCarthy by the Senate, even though McCarthy had made many disparaging remarks about Dworshak at the Army-McCarthy hearings of 1954. A veteran of World War I, Dworshak is buried in Arlington National Cemetery. From the collection of Ralph Errington Ward (1926-2009) a fighter pilot and squadron commander in the China-Burma-India Theater of World War II. Ward went on to become President and CEO of Cheseborough-Ponds, Inc., transforming the cosmetics firm into a major home product conglomerate. Toned. Otherwise, fine condition.
