HENRY D. GILPIN. ALS: "H.D. Gilpin", 1p, 7½x9½ affixed to sheet of similar size. Philadelphia, 1851 January 22. To John C. Rues, Esq., Washington. He forwards a letter (not present) from a Mrs. Livingston in New York to Major Daveson whom she thought "had returned from Washington to this city. He has not done so and I have no knowledge of his address in Washington...Thinking that there are no persons there whom he will be more likely to see than Mr. Blair and yourself...I have ventured to trouble you with it...." Gilpin was Van Buren's Attorney General from 1840-1841. Erased pencil note (unknown hand) at upper left corner. Glue stain at lower right corner. Folds, vertical fold touches "D". Fine condition.
