HENRY FONDA and JANE FONDA
Both inscribed this book page to famed Hollywood makeup artist Emile LaVigne.
Book Page inscribed and signed: "To Emil/With All Very Best/Wishes -/Henry Fonda", "Dear Emil -/Another Fonda/sends warmest wishes/Jane/Jan 1976", 6½x10. One of the cinema's most enduring actors, HENRY FONDA (1905-1982) enjoyed a highly successful career spanning close to a half century. His first important Broadway part was in the first edition of New Faces in 1934. That was followed by the title role in The Farmer Takes a Wife, which he repeated in Hollywood the following year. Two years later, Henry was an established star appearing in such films as Jezebel, Jesse James, Young Mr. Lincoln, Drums Along the Mohawk and The Grapes of Wrath. In March 1982, five months before he died at the age of 77, Henry Fonda won his only Academy Award for his performance in On Golden Pond, co-starring Katharine Hepburn and his daughter, Jane Fonda. JANE FONDA (born in 1937) won Best Actress Oscars for Klute (1971) and Coming Home (1978), as well as nominations for They Shoot Horses, Don't They? (1969), Julia (1977), The China Syndrome (1979), On Golden Pond - her only film appearance with her father (1981), and The Morning After (1986). Reactions to Jane Fonda are colored for many by her political activism, and especially her strong opposition to the Vietnam War. Beginning in 1939 with his un-credited role making up "Tin Man" Jack Haley for The Wizard of Oz, Emile LaVigne (1913-1990) was chief makeup artist for many classic films, including Some Like It Hot, The Magnificent Seven, and The Great Escape. He collected signatures of Academy Award winners. LaVigne would have worked with Henry Fonda at least as early as 1948 (Fort Apache), and with daughter Jane 30 years later (Fun with Dick and Jane, Comes a Horseman). Fine condition.
