for a letter and magazine sent to him previously
Typed letter signed: "Henry H. Fowler", in blue ink, 1 page,
8x10½. The Secretary of the Treasury. Washington, D.C. February 7, 1968. In
full: "Dear Mr. Patterson: Thank you for your letter of January 9 and for
the January 13 issue of your magazine. I was delighted to read that my good
friend J. Iwrin Miller has been cited as the 1968 Businessman of the Year. As my
note to Mr. Miller said, I believe the Saturday Review and the
participating business leaders throughout the country made a wise decision in
their choice. Sincerely yours". Henry H. Fowler (1908-2000) of
Virginia was Director of the Office of Defense Mobilization under President
Truman (1950-1953) and Secretary of the Treasury under President Lyndon Johnson
(1965-1969). A lawyer, he was a member of Americans for Democratic Action
(ADA) and the Council on Foreign Relations. After leaving government, he joined
the investment firm of Goldman, Sachs. Normal mailing folds. Fine
condition.
