Shaw (1818-1885), writing under the name Josh Billings, was a popular 19th
century American humorist. Shaw's works include: Josh Billings: Hiz
Sayings (1865) and Josh Billings Farmers' Allminax (published
annually, 1869-1880). Examples of his aphorism include: "Love looks through a
telescope; envy through a microscope," and "There is only one good substitute
for the endearments of a sister, and that is the endearments of some other
fellow's sister." Slightly soiled. Mounting tape remnants on verso (no show
through). Otherwise, fine condition.
