HENRY KAISER
Tongue-in-cheek letter written by the actor to Todd Axelrod, founder of the Gallery of History.
Autograph Letter signed: "HW Kaiser 7/24/84" in black ink, 1p, 8½x11. No place, 1984 July 24.With header "As per your letter of July 20." Addressed to "Todd M. Axelrod/ A.M.H.D. Executive Director/ 520 S. Fourth, Las Vegas". To "Dear Todd". In full: "Although my personal secretary, Ms. Pheney Bushmeister, usually handles the hundreds of autograph and personal appearance requests I receive each week, I'm glad she broke protocall [sic] to bring your letter to my personal attention. (I hope I never get "too big" to help out a deserving organization like the A.M.H.D.)/ I've enclosed a rare print by that esteemed portrait photographer, Robert (8x10) McCreath. I wish I could include more than one print, but I'm sure that you'll agree- one original like this is worth several Emancipation Proclamations.)/ The picture shows me as I appeared in "The Reincarnation of Mary Cobb." As you may recall, Mary Cobb was the first woman to raise the question, "Is our dog really getting enough cheese?" Of course I needn't remind you that it was David Mamet who turned Mrs. Cobb's story into the Tony-Award-Winning musical. My character work as the late Mary Cobb earned me my first Tony, and, because of this it will always remain my favorite role, -although I do wish I had thought twice about the sex-change operation. Oh, well, we all make sacrifices for our 'art'". Henry Kaiser is an actor best known for appearing in a total of seven Mel Brooks films. He was a disciple of The Roman Empire in History of the World: Part I, a Gestapo Officer in To Be or Not to Be (1983), Magnetic Beam Operator in Spaceballs (1987), to name a few. In addition, he guest starred on a couple of TV programs: He played the Weatherman in a 1989 episode of Dallas, and the character of Leo in two episodes of The Nutt House in 1989. Kaiser also made two guest appearances, one in 2005 and one in 2007, in the TV series Man, Moment, Machine. Upper corners gently worn. Top edge irregular from being neatly torn. Ink bleeding at "84" of date following signature. Otherwise, fine condition.
