Autograph Note signed: "My dear Miss Jewel,/I think at
Falk/Photographers New York", 5¼x3¼. Actor and manager Henry Miller
(1859-1926) emigrated from England to Canada with his parents, playing
juvenile roles on the stage in Toronto. Moving to New York, he acted
in the companies of Augustin Daly, the Lyceum Theatre, and Charles and Daniel
Frohman. While performing in Odette, he met and married actress Bijou
Heron in 1883. Miller's national reputation grew when he toured the US with
Margaret Anglin in William Vaughn Moody's The Great Divide. From 1908,
Miller devoted himself to management, promoting the careers of Alla Nazimova,
Walter Hampden and Ruth Chatterton, among others. He opened his own Henry
Miller Theatre in New York. The Miller's three children included Gilbert
Heron Miller, who became an important theatrical manager. Soiled and toned at
face and verso. Tears and notches at edges and corners. Mounting residue on
verso. Two surface tears (not affecting signature). Ink lightly bled through to
verso. Otherwise, fine condition.
