HENRY REUSS
He signs a noncommittal typed letter (1981), replying to a constituent's
concerns about proposed government restrictions on money market funds.
Typed Letter signed: "Henry Reuss", 1 page, 8½x11. Washington,
D.C., 1981 April 27. On his Congressional letterhead as Chairman of the
Joint Economic Committee to Richard Weil, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. In full:
"Thank you for your recent letter, giving me your views on proposals to
restrict money market mutual funds. The Domestic Monetary Subcommittee of the
House Banking Committee has begun hearings on this subject, and I'll see that
your comments are made known to the members of that Subcommittee.
Sincerely". Henry S. Reuss (1912-2002) was legal counsel to Milwaukee
County, the Office of Price Administration and (after World War II) the Marshall
Plan. He earned a bronze star as a US Army infantryman during World War II.
Originally a Republican, he switched parties in 1950, indignant at the antics of
Senator Joseph McCarthy in his home state of Wisconsin. Reuss himself was
elected fourteen terms in the US House of Representatives (1955-1983),
where he chaired a series of committees dealing with economic policy. He was the
author of several books. In 1942 he married Margaret Magrath, herself
politically active as an aide to DC Mayor Marion Berry and in several political
action committees, notably Emily's List. Light paperclip crease at center top
margin. Normal mailing folds and lightly creased. Otherwise, fine
condition.
