HENRYK "HENRI" WIENIAWSKI (1835-1880) and his younger brother, JOSEF "JOSEPH" WIENIAWSKI (1837-1912) were known as the "Maestros of Poland". As boys of 14 and 16, the Wieniawskis had began a two-year concert tour of Russia in 1851 with pianist Josef accompanying violinist Henryk. That year, they also published "Allegro de Sonata", which they had composed in 1848. The two brothers excelled in their chosen fields of music, with Henri composing brilliant Romantic concertos, études and genre pieces for the violin. Together, they composed their first polonaise, the "Grand Due Polonaise", in 1855. Both men would also favor and promote the works of Polish composer, Stanislav Moniuszko (1819-1872). In 1872, the year he signed this card, Henri embarked on a two-year world tour commencing in North America (he toured widely from 1850 until his death in 1880 at age 45). Six years later, brother Josef accepted the appointment of Professor of Piano at the Brussels Conservatory, a position he held for the rest of his life. Two items. Framed to an overall size of 27¼x20¼.
