HERB ADDERLEY
Black and white photograph of a young Adderley, the caption lists the Hall of Fame cornerback at his original position of halfback!
Inscribed Photograph signed: "Best wishes/to Jim Wiggins/Sincerely Yours,/Herb Adderley/1966", B/w 8x10. Adderley played football in college at Michigan State University. Drafted twelfth in the 1961 NFL draft by the Green Bay Packers, he had to compete with future Hall of Fame running backs Jim Taylor and Paul Hornung for his starting spot. This led to coach Vince Lombardi putting him in as a cornerback after an injury. This turn of events turned a backup running back into a Hall of Fame cornerback. In his twelve year career playing for the Green Bay Packers and the Dallas Cowboys Adderley played in seven NFL championship games, his team winning in every one. He accumulated a career 48 interceptions, returning them for 1,046 yards and twelve touchdowns. He excelled at kick returning with a 25.7 yard average on 120 returns. In Super Bowl II Herb returned a 60 yard interception for a touchdown which clinched the Packers win. In 1980 he was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Lightly creased. Pencil note (unknown hand) and ink stamps on verso. Otherwise, fine condition.
