Typed Note signed: "Herb", 1p, 8½x7¼. San Francisco,
California, no date. On letterhead of "San Francisco Examiner", to Eddie
Sousa. In full: "Thanks for your kind interest - and I hope this
doesn't louse up you wall too much! Best,". Herb Caen (1916-1997) began
his "It's News to Me" column in the San Francisco Chronicle in 1938, writing it
six days a week for nearly sixty years. (He wrote for the San Francisco
Examiner from 1950 to1958.) In 1996, he received a Pulitzer Prize in
Journalism "for his extraordinary and continuing contribution as a voice and
conscience of his city." His books included Baghdad-On-The-Bay (1949) and
One Man's San Francisco (1976). Fine condition.
