Hauptman, of the State University of New York at Buffalo, a world renowned mathematician who pioneered and developed a mathematical method that has changed the whole field of chemistryand opened a new era in research in determination of molecular structures of crystallized materials, was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry (1985). Today, Dr. Hauptman's direct methods, which he has continued to improve and refine, are routinely used to solve complicated structures. Until his death in 2011, he served as President of the Hauptman-Woodward Medical Research Institute as well as Research Professor in the Department of Biophysical Sciences. Author of over 170 publications, he was elected to the National Academy of Science in 1988. Fine condition.
