HERBERT BROWNELL. Signature: "Herbert Brown Jr.", 5x3 card. Herbert Brownell, Jr. (1904-1996), a longtime New York city lawyer and a legislator (1933-1937), managed Thomas E. Dewey's successful campaign for Governor of New York (1942) and both his unsuccessful campaigns for President (1944-1948). He was Chairman of the Republican National Committee (1944-1946). Brownell, who helped persuade Dwight D. Eisenhower to run for President, was US Attorney General (1953-1957). In that capacity he helped draft the nation's first modern civil rights law, enacted by the Congress in 1957 after many amendments. Brownell represented the US at the Permanent Court of International Arbitration in the Hague, Netherlands, and helped negotiate a Colorado River agreement with Mexico in the 1972. Fine condition.
