Actor Herbert Rawlinson signed this typed letter on Universal Film
Manufacturing Company letterhead in 1916 to apologize for not sending the
recipient a photograph. Very rare!

page, 8½x11, on Universal Film Manufacturing Company letterhead. Sept. 7,
1916. Addressed to Miss Gladys Calvert, New York City. In full:
"Dear friend: - During the turmoil and rush of my busy life here at the
city, I have forgotten as to whether I have sent you the photograph you
requested of me or not. You will pardon me for putting you to this trouble of
finding out, but if you will kindly advise me as to whether or not, I shall be
more than pleased to act accordingly. Thanking you in anticipation of an early
reply, I beg to remain Very sincerely, HR/M." Herbert Rawlinson
(1885-1953, born in Brighton, East Essex, England, United Kingdom) was a stage
actor who moved to the silver screen in 1911. A leading man in silent films,
he gradually moved to character roles when soundies made their debut, often as a
criminal masquerading as a pillar of society. Rawlinson made several serials
during the silent era and returned to them in 1937 with the title role in
Blake of Scotland Yard. He appeared in Columbia Pictures fifteen
episode serial Superman (1948) as Dr. Arnold Graham. Later he
acted in the very first episode of the television series The Adventures of
Superman titled Superman on Earth which aired on September 19,
1952. In it he played Rozan, the head of the Kryptonian Council on
Superman's home planet of Krypton. A star is dedicated to Rawlinson on the
Hollywood Walk of Fame for his contribution to the motion picture industry.
Lightly toned and creased. Adhesive remnants on verso (no show-through). Light
nicks along left and right edges. Light pinholes near right edge. Folded twice
vertically and thrice horizontally. Otherwise in fine
condition.
