Four members of the Luftwaffe sign this British commemorative envelope honoring the
opening of the Royal Air Force Museum in 1972
Commemorative Envelope Signed: “Herbert Schob”, “Eduard Neumann”, “Herbert Ihlefeld”,

affixed. Color illustration of a Gloster Meteor 3 cacheted on left-hand side. Eight b/w photos
(one of which is signed by Edward Neumann) of the pilots included. HERBERT SCHOB
(1915-1981) was a fighter ace who flew for the German Luftwaffe during both the
Spanish Civil War and World War II. He recorded 34 aerial victories during WWII and 6
during the Spanish Civil War. Among the multiple awards he received for his service were the
Spanish Cross and the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross. EDUARD “EDU” NEUMANN
(1911-2004) served as an officer in the Luftwaffe during both World War II and the
Spanish Civil War. He commanded the Jagdgeschwader 27 fighter wing during the North
African Campaign (1941-1943). HERBERT IHLEFELD (1914-1995) was a German
Luftwaffe flying ace who recorded an impressive 132 victories in the more than 1,000
missions that he flew during both the Spanish Civil War and the Second World War. He
received the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross with Oak Leaves and Swords. KARL
RAMMELT (1914-2009) was awarded a Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross for his service in
the German Luftwaffe of World War II. During the War, Schulte recorded 46 aerial
victories in the roughly 450 combat missions he flew. Identities and accomplishments of
signers neatly stamped in German on verso. Lightly toned. Corners and edges gently worn.
