The Congressman signs his name on this typed letter from 1973
Typed Letter Signed: "Herman Badillo" as Congressman, 1p, 8x10½. Washington, D.C., 1973 June 19. To Dr. Herman Goldberg, Associate Commissioner for Equal Educational Opportunity, U.S. Department of Education. The Bronx Congressman (1971-1977) supports the "applications submitted by the New York City Central Board of Education and independently by twenty-one school districts for Emergency School Assistance Act funds", pointing out that "since these funds are allocated on the basis of minority children in the State", Dr. Goldberg should be aware that "New York City has 80% of the minority children in the State...." HERMAN BADILLO (1929-2014) was the first U.S. Congressman born in Puerto Rico. GOLDBERG had been a member of the 1936 U.S. Baseball team at the Berlin Olympics. Slightly creased.
