Typed Letter Signed: "Herman Badillo" as Congressman,
1p, 8x10½. Washington, D.C., 1973 June 19. To Dr. Herman Goldberg,
Associate Commissioner for Equal Educational Opportunity, U.S. Department of
Education. The Bronx Congressman (1971-1977) supports the "applications
submitted by the New York City Central Board of Education and independently by
twenty-one school districts for Emergency School Assistance Act funds",
pointing out that "since these funds are allocated on the basis of minority
children in the State", Dr. Goldberg should be aware that "New York City
has 80% of the minority children in the State...." HERMAN BADILLO
(1929-2014) was the first U.S. Congressman born in Puerto Rico.
GOLDBERG had been a member of the 1936 U.S. Baseball team at the Berlin
Olympics. Slightly creased. Shaded at upper blank margin, which has staple holes
at upper left corner and light paper clip impression at top left. Receipt stamp
at lower margin. Otherwise, fine condition.
