HERMAN KOGAN and LLYOD WENDT
The two Chicago journalists and writers sign a note to book publisher Rose Oller Harbaugh, thanking her for all her support and help over the years. Extremely rare!
Autograph note signed: "Herman Kogan", "Lloyd Wendt", in blue ink, 7¾x3¾. In full: "Our love, admiration and deep personal regard for Rose Oller Harbaugh, the gracious first lady of the book world - with many many thanks for all you've done". Jewish journalist HERMAN KOGAN (1914-1989) based most of his career off the history and culture of Chicago, which became an area of expertise for him later in life. Graduating from the University of Chicago in 1936, Kogan wrote and edited for several Chicago based papers and journals, including the Chicago-Sun Times and the Chicago Daily News. Kogan also worked in local television for a number of years, but eventually made his way back to his true calling in writing. He published several books on Chicago's history, many in collaboration with fellow Chicago journalist LLOYD WENDT (1908-2007). Wendt worked at the Chicago Tribune during his early journalistic career, beginning in 1934 with his political columns, and remaining with the paper as it grew and eventually absorbed several smaller publications. He published a book on the history of the Chicago Tribune, being one of the many books he published, including his four collaborations with Herman Kogan: Lords of the Levee, Give the Lady What She Wants: the story of Marshall Field & Company, Big Bill of Chicago, and Chicago: A Pictorial History. Toned. Right edge notched and frayed. Slight creases. Otherwise, fine condition.
