HERMAN WOUK
The author signs his name with a sentiment on this typed letter from a professor Hans-Georg Gilde
Autograph sentiment signed: "Cordial good wishes/Herman Wouk", 1p, 8½x11. Dated by Wouk: "9 March 1977". Written at the lower margin of a TLS: "Hans-Georg Gilde" as Professor. Marietta, Ohio, 1977 March 3. On letterhead of Marietta College to Wouk in New York City Herman Wouk (1915-2019) won the 1952 Pulitzer Prize in fiction for The Caine Mutiny. The book became a Broadway play and the 1954 film version, starring Humphrey Bogart as Captain Queeg, was nominated for six Academy Awards. Wouk's other works include the best-sellers Marjorie Morningstar (1955), Youngblood Hawke (1962), The Winds of War (1971) and War and Remembrance (1978). All of these works became films or - in the case of the latter two - TV miniseries. Wouk's honors include the Guardian of Zion Award (1998) and the first Library of Congress Lifetime Achievement Award for fiction (2008). Lightly creased with folds, not at signatures. Otherwise, fine condition.
