Typed Letter signed: "Herman Wouk", 1 page, 5½x8½. No place, January 11, 1999. On
personal letterhead to Mr. Barnaby Conrad, Carpintaria, California. In full: "Always a pleasure
to hear from you. Many thanks for the poignant little piece with the reference to Marjorie, which
goes into the archive. All well here, I'm polishing a completed mss and wondering which of several
crazy ideas to attempt next. Happy New Year! Warmest regards," Accompanied by matching
envelope with typed address of Mr. Barnaby Conrad. Herman Wouk (1915-2019) won the
1952 Pulitzer Prize in fiction for The Caine Mutiny. The book became a Broadway play
and the 1954 film version, starring Humphrey Bogart as Captain Queeg, was nominated for
six Academy Awards. Wouk's other works include the best-sellers Marjorie Morningstar
(1955), Youngblood Hawke (1962), The Winds of War (1971) and War and Remembrance
(1978). All of these works became films or - in the case of the latter two - TV miniseries.
Wouk's honors include the Guardian of Zion Award (1998) and the first Library of
Congress Lifetime Achievement Award for fiction (2008).Normal mailing folds.
